Air Force Sgt. surprises daughters at school with early return from Afghanistan

WALDORF, Md.
She has been serving her country far away from home, but a Charles County mother returned and got a chance to surprise her two young children Thursday when she dropped in at their elementary school in Waldorf.

The emotional reunion took place at William B. Wade Elementary School.

Any school day that ends in cupcakes is a pretty sweet day. It is unbeatable when the person who marches down the hall to make the cupcake delivery is Air Force Sgt. D'Andrea Jacobs.

Jacobs surprised her 9-year-old daughter, Karmen, who had not seen her mom in six months. And the tears were flowing when she first saw her mother enter the classroom. A big hug was exchanged and Karmen’s classmates clapped during the embrace.

When asked what the hardest thing was about having her mother being away, Karmen responded, “Everything.”
