A visibly shaking suspect in a felony assault case said he needed treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder during an appearance in Missoula County Justice Court on Thursday.

Justice of the Peace Karen Orzech ordered Richard Heilman, 44, of Missoula held pending $30,000 bail but said he could seek treatment at the Veterans Affairs hospital at Fort Harrison if he posted bond. Heilman is in the Missoula County Detention Center on a charge of felony assault with a weapon.

  1. I want to say thank you to my family and friends, the VA and the national media for supporting us as we have gone through this time.

PTSD is a wicked thing to go through and I highly encourage all members and former members of the United States Military to seek PTSD treatment. Don't let PTSD cause further harm in your lives, get some help.

    Thanks,

    Rick Heilman

  2. WOW. With all you have gone thru you are still thinking of others!

You are right about PTSD being wicked but think of it this way. PTSD means what can happen after trauma (trauma is Greek for wound) but replace a couple of letters and you'll know it isn't hopeless. CPTC
Combat Post Traumatic Change. The trauma changed you once and you can change again. There is no cure for PTSD but there is healing. You just sent some veterans into seeking help with what you wrote.
