Today, the veteran is out of work while trying to find a way to pay his extensive medical bills. But, his priority is to help sheriff's deputies find the men who almost killed him before they attack someone else.
TOWN N' COUNTRY, Fla. - He survived a war, twice, only to be shot in the chest in his own home by strangers.

The masked men who attacked Grant Langenburg of Hillsborough County are still on the run, while the 34-year-old Iraq War veteran recovers and tries to find a way to pay a $170,000 medical bill.

"I've done two combat tours in Iraq, it's not what you expect." Langenburg said of his recently shooting. "You don't expect to get shot in your own house."

Langenburg spent eight days in the hospital. He has three broken ribs, a hole in his lung, and a bullet still lodged in his chest.

The bullet "went through my rib, hit my lung and ended up stopping on my ribcage right behind my heart," Langenburg said.

Disabled Vietnam Veteran Stops Robber

Homeowner shoots armed robbery suspect

Once the disabled veteran realized they were being robbed, he took action. He shot the suspect twice, once in the stomach and once in the back. The suspect fell right in the front yard, and that's where Mr. Medina held him at gunpoint until police arrived.
CORPUS CHRISTI
A couple came face to face with a nightmare when they pulled up to their Westside home Wednesday evening. They were confronted by a gunman that ordered them to hand over their wallets, but one of the victims quickly turned the tables. The 69-year-old Vietnam veteran has a license to carry, and when guns on both sides were drawn he shot first.

"He knew within seconds that it was a life and death situation," the homeowner's daughter Kristine Medina said.

Mr. and Mrs. Medina were coming home to the 1300 block of Calle San Carlos just before 9 p.m. when they encountered an armed robbery suspect in their own driveway.

"My dad can't really hear, pretty hard of hearing, so apparently the guy asked him to give him his wallet. And it took him a few times of repeating, and my mom finally heard. And by then my dad realized that he was being held at gunpoint," Medina said.

National Guard Soldier Mom Shot During Home Invasion Recovering

Semantha Bunce, 21, was shot in her northeast Charlotte home
Husband says she’s doing “a little better”
A 21-year-old Army National Guard member who was shot by intruders in her northeast Charlotte home last week continues to improve at Carolinas Medical Center.

“She’s doing a little better,” Semantha Bunce’s husband, Paul Bunce III, told the Observer in a brief phone interview on Saturday.

Semantha Bunce was feeding the couple’s baby just before 10 a.m. Tuesday when someone knocked on the front door, rang the door bell and then kicked in the door, her father-in-law, Paul Bunce Jr., told Observer news partner WBTV.

Semantha Bunce met the intruders at her bedroom door, and when the men opened fire on her in the stairwell area, she fired back, her husband told WSOC-TV last week. “I think it was a shock to the intruders just as much as it was to her,” he told the station.

Paul Bunce III told WSOC-TV he believes his wife’s training as a combat medic allowed her to stay mentally focused and calm during what was a fight for her life.

The couple’s 4-month-old son was uninjured.

Paul Bunce III was at work as a maintenance technician at a Matthews apartment complex when he received a call about the shooting from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office. He was told his wife had been shot multiple times and taken to CMC in critical condition, according to a YouCaring fund-raising site established by his employer, MAA. The company manages apartment complexes in the Carolinas and 13 other states.

Community steps up after veteran was ambushed

Veteran ambushed by thieves gets big surprise
FOX 10

Updated: Friday, March 21, 2014

DAPHNE, Ala. (WALA) A big hero’s welcome is expected in Daphne this weekend.

Veteran Robert Huber, 75, will be leaving his rehabilitation facility, weeks after a violent home invasion left him wounded.

A $500 reward is still being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case, although officials say police are following several good leads right now.

Huber’s daughter believes her father will be surprised to learn just how many people have stepped up to help renovate his Church street home.

“He’s anxious. He wants to come and see everyone up here. He wants to see what they’re doing,” said Huber’s daughter, Kim Mclemore. “I don’t think he realizes the depth that has gone in all this.”

Huber’s Daphne home is being fitted with new handicap ramps, floor tiles, wheelchair accessible bathroom, and state-of-the-art security system, as part of an extreme home makeover.

Dozens of volunteers have been fixing up Huber’s home and yard in anticipation of his arrival.

89-year-old Mawk Arnold and his Marine Corps league buddies are among the volunteers who have joined forces.

Arnold says the group got involved after learning Huber had been attacked and taken advantage of, over a television.

“What in the world was the idiot thinking to do what he did?” asked Arnold. “I can understand the thievery — that’s normal, but to tear the place up and to beat a veteran in a wheel chair?”

Two men held a woman at gunpoint and demanded cash in a home invasion robbery before being scared off by the family’s Jack Russell terrier late Sunday, Palm Bay police said.

The men with handguns knocked on the door of a home in the 1800 block of Wildcat Avenue SE and confronted a woman who answered the knock, police spokeswoman Yvonne Martinez said. One man who was wearing a mask and gloves “grabbed (the victim) by the hair and forcefully pushed her to the ground,” a police report says.

“One suspect pointed a gun at her head and shouted several times for her to give him the money, which he did not obtain,” according to the report.

Barbara Boos said she thought she was going to die, but believes her dog -- a 1-year-old terrier named Pete -- scared the suspects off.

“My dog went out and grabbed the other (suspect’s) pant leg and started trying to bite him,” she said. “He’s a feisty little thing.”

The 62-year-old woman said this morning she was still shaken up and may have sprained her wrist and an ankle in the incident.

DAYTONA BEACH - A man using a wheelchair and his teenage stepson were attacked and cut overnight by home invaders using a machete, Daytona Beach police said today.

The attack on Byron Street early Saturday morning sent the man to the hospital, a report from police spokesman Jimmie Flynt said.

According to the report, the victim had just arrived home and was in his wheelchair when four to six men ambushed him, asking, "Where's the stuff?" The victim told police he responded that he didn't have anything and he was told the men would go into his house and kill his wife.

Moments later, three of the men cut the homeowner with a machete as the other three used his keys to get into the house.

A 9-year-old boy was killed while sleeping in his north Harris County home early today and his father was wounded when a group of men — who may have targeted the wrong address — fired a fusillade of shots as they fled.

The attack occurred about 1:30 a.m. after the men had broken into a neighboring home, tied up a woman and ransacked her house, Harris County sheriff's deputies said.

Investigators were talking with the boy's mother, father and other relatives as they tried to determine who the attackers are and why they went to that neighborhood, in the 12100 block of East Hardy near Regena.

The boy who died in his bed was Cesar Armendarez, a third-grader at Stephens Elementary School in the Aldine school district, said his 18-year-old brother, Pedro Armendarez Jr

Home invaders confront family, shoot teen

Home invaders confront family, shoot teen
Susan Jacobson Sentinel Staff Writer
August 13, 2008
In what investigators say appears to be a random act, a woman, her daughter and four young children were terrorized late Tuesday by home invaders who confronted them in their driveway, demanded money and shot a 15-year-old boy. The family was returning home in the 4800 block of Carter Street about 9:30 p.m. when four or five men in their 20s, dressed in black and wearing baseball caps and shirts or masks over their faces, forced them into the house, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said. Inside, the teenage boy apparently startled the men, who responded by firing several shots at him, the Sheriff's Office said. He was hit one to three times, investigators said, but his condition was unknown early today. The men ran away afterward.
